Hello Mike,
This computer was previously directly connected to the Internet and served
briefly as the ICS Host. During that time it had no difficulty performing
this tasks. Its firewal and anti-virus configuration are the same as they
were previously. And previously it worked just fine. The only change made is
that it has been configured to be the ICS client now, rather than host.
I would note, however, that I have tried turning off Norton and changing
settings on the firewall and gotten no change.
My error message is: "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the
connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network
problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Natasha@Neck', Server:
'mail.addr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F"
This account sends just fine.
I believe that my problem has to do with security, as I mentioned the
troubles in signing onto Hotmail and I've found some "https" sites will let
me on but not let me complete transactions. And I note that the error message
above mentions "SSL".
Now, these are the relevant entries from the logs. The first here is from
the Host ICS machine:

It is at this point that I get the error message: "Your server has
unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include
server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account:
'Natasha@Neck', Server: 'mail.addr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,

Now again, these emails can be accessed on any other machine with the
account/server information. And this account can SEND emails but it will not
receive. It also appears it can access emails on Hotmail. BUT I cannot log
into Hotmail via the web. And MSN messenger will not signon.
And although I am able to login to some 'https' websites, certain, what I
would regard as higher security, activities do not go through, they just hang
-- much like Outlook Express does when pulling down these emails.
I'm suspecting some security related difference between the ICS Host and
client, but I've no idea what. Little has changed on the client, except
becoming a client.
Any ideas are more than welcome.
