You say all this started after you downloaded SP2, was your A/V running?
If it was, I suggest you remove SP2, also with your A/V disabled.
Follow the instructions here to remove SP2:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;875350
When you have everything back to normal, download SP2 again with your
A/V turned off, and all other windows, (IE, OE etc.), closed.
