Running Windows XP and IE6, there is no workaround for the problem. You can
save the message and change the file extension to htm or html and double
click it and it will open in the default browser, but an eml or nws file
will only open in Outlook Express (or a text editor).

The problem has been around since the beginning of Netscape and IE (or have
you never tried to have a link in a message open in IE, if Netscape was your
default mail program?). I think it's considered "payback" for all the years
of frustration of trying to work within Netscape and IE. I'm afraid you're
just going to have to live with a "clumsy workaround" since you cannot
remove IE/OE from an XP system.
