I think what you are talking about is an XP ServicePack 2
issue. Links inside of any email read within OE after XP SP2
is installed, don't seem to work.

FireFox is ONLY a web-browser. The ONLY noticeable
effect it possesses would occur if you set FireFox as the
default browser, the default browser opens links (but SP2 for
XP doesn't allow links to open any more). Other operating
systems probably were affected in the same manner. I can
only comment on XP right at the moment.
