OE hanging up - can't switch identity

After trying to delete old mail in a secondary identity, OE is now hanging up
so I can't get any mail. The email display area is blank, I can't access the
"File" option to switch to my primary identity, and the hour glass keeps
turning. I've rebooted several times, without helping.
How can I get back to my primary identity? When I reboot, it goes right to
#2.
