Sir,
If you take the trouble to read my original post carefully, you will see
that I said "From time to time I find something is using 100% CPU" From
time to time being the operative words. After removal of ATPartners.dll
which in itself was interesting, as a number of Adware, Malware and Trojan
finding programs could not find it and those that did were unable to delete
it, for a short time the problem appeared to be solved. However on
reflection this was one of the clear periods between the occasions that the
trouble occurred. That was the reason that I did not mention that I had
mistakenly believed the problem to have been identified.
I have spent most of my working life in the computer industry mainly as a
support engineer on mainframes. Thus my knowledge of PC operating systems
and software can best be described as adequate rather than expert. What I
find offensive is the sort of e-mail that immediately followed your last
post, where absolutely nothing of any use was forthcoming and where the
writer found it necessary to add a signature consisting of a few lines in
another language. Having read many answers to people's problems on this and
other newsgroups I find that there is a rush to appear in print from some
people even when they have nothing of substance to offer. In fact on
another newsgroup one responder advised seven people over a period of three
days to run Scannow as an answer to their problem. In fact that would have
been inappropriate for any of the problems mentioned and you will of course
be aware that Scannow on certain machines has a problem of it's own and that
Scanonce is a safer option.
I have the greatest respect for the many people in the computer field who
offer help, create programs for free use and generally exist in order to be
of use to their fellow humans. On the other hand I have nothing but disgust
for those individuals who know a little but believe they know everything and
spend their time passing on rubbish information to less knowledgeable
persons. Those people negate much of the good that genuine responders do on
these sorts of newsgroups. I understand that in reading postings it is easy
to misread something or to assume incorrectly some point that is made.
However I must stress to you that somebody writing in with a question may
not have the experience to judge that the reply was based on such an error
and would urge you to ensure that before answering any question posed, that
you have actually read and understood the question
