Yes. The problem is my ISP but they blame the XP firewall.
Prove it yourself with telnet. At times the POP3 login prompt
will be very slow appearing. AFAIK there is nothing that OE or XP
can do. In telnet you can force the issue by entering help
or something and then you will see the prompt.
If I knew how to inject the same sort manual intervention into the
hung connection I bet that I could make OE get the prompt it is
waiting for too.
Turning the XP firewall off does not help but does cause me
unnecessary exposure so I leave it on. My solution is to set
the timeout for this account to 30 seconds (the minimum).
That way I only have to wait that long before I get a prompt
(Wait or Stop) which I reply Stop to. Wait almost never works
but Stop allows Sends and other commands to proceed.
If you just click Cancel to try to abort a longer timeout you abort
all the pending operations which may result in a procedural loop.
