hi,
>First tell us exactly what you want.
fair enough, i want outlook express to stop forgetting the last folder
used for my saved attachments.
Here's what i mean, i receive 2 or 3 attachments in a message, i click
the paper clip, "save all attachments...", browse to the right folder,
then save. so far so good.
i repeat for another message, it goes back to "my documents" instead
of the last used folder. very frustrating when you have more than 10
messages you want to save.
one note: when i right click on the attachment itself (image) in the
message, and save it, that works fine between messages. But only for
that type of save, not the one from the paperclip for "all
attachments".
So i wanted to try and remove any OE updates/hotfix, however every
message i found here either does not name any hotfix specifically or
if it does, i don't have it in my add/remove software CP applet since
i installed SP1 right after reinstalling windows a month ago, i can't
remove any hotfix for OE that is included in SP1, so the only one left
is the one i spoke of in my original message below.
so now i'm stuck with this uninstall-patch prompt at each session
openning of each user on this puter.
that is until they click yes, but you see the way its written on the
popup window, it doesn't say if i'll loose my messages, rules and
such, it just says my personnalisations for outlook express, wich if
you think about it, could very well mean identities, filters,
accounts, Message folders, etc.
However, the prompt itself is wrongly worded since if i click yes, i
don't loose anything, except the prompt itself, lol. i guess some
newbie microsoft programmer wrote that one lol.
Usually the removal of the patches doesn't involve us, it just removes
the patch, then reboot and finishes its cleaning silently, never to
bother us again.
>to the offer to remove them but I think that you might keep getting
>the prompt on each reboot until you finally did reinstall OE.
exactly, it comes back if you click no, plus slows down the user's
session openning, and it is a per user setting.
each user on this machine gets asked this question until they select
yes instead of no.
>FWIW I have never investigated trying to remove the prompt and not
>reinstalling or even really tried to find out how long it persists.
i've just created a test user and it doesn't ask the question, so that
is a relief.
as for reinstalling the hotfix, just use windows update, it'll be in
the criticals.
>One thing I would look at now though is how usable the product is

it works fine, it just rollsback the version number from 1128 to 1123,
and with that, any fixes it had with that patch (at this point i
"suppose" it does that, who knows anymore, lol).
But still, this bug in the OE hotfix about going back to "my
documents" each time, is a pest, i know its a bug in programming that
removes the last letter of the save folder so OE doesn't find it, and
its not really practical for me to use the tip about changing my
default save folder, i could, but it wouldn't fix the problem
permanently.
i just hope SP2 does have a fix for that bug and it comes out very
soon.
thanks for the assist,
HT
