First tell us exactly what you want.
That's probably the message that you get if you don't immediately
reinstall IE or OE after using the RegEdit instructions under KB318378
Method 2 and do a reboot first.
So, I think it could mean that you should be trying to reinstall the update.
We'll ignore the question of why your uninstall of the patched modules
would not have restored previous versions of them.
Otherwise it could be as if you don't want to reinstall OE but you do want
to keep your personalized settings. (Why?) Then you would reply No
to the offer to remove them but I think that you might keep getting
the prompt on each reboot until you finally did reinstall OE.
FWIW I have never investigated trying to remove the prompt and not
reinstalling or even really tried to find out how long it persists.
It never occurred to me as a "problem" to look at.
One thing I would look at now though is how usable the product is
if you don't reinstall it after using the RegEdit step.
E.g. I don't think that anything actually gets deleted by it
(otherwise it might be difficult for IE users to connect to WU!)
Then I think it would be interesting to know whether you can just change
your mind about reinstalling it and restore the registry value as if you had
never tried to do anything about it in the first place. (Though this does
present the interesting question of what effect replying Yes to the prompt
and then "changing your mind" would have. Perhaps we have inadvertently
discovered a new reinitialization "feechur"?)
So, if OE works for you and what shows in its Help, About command
makes sense in view of your uninstall and previous maintenance history
(e.g. in terms of module versions) and you don't want to reinstall the latest
cumulative update perhaps all you need to do to get rid of the prompt
is change that IsInstalled value back to 1.
Good luck
