View>Current View>Hide Read Messages; then...

 View>Current View>Customize current view

    - uncheck "Where the message has been read"

    - check "Where the message was sent more than [3] days ago"

Now name this customized view as you wish and select this view when reading
newsgroups. Messages sent more than 3 days ago will not be displayed.

Or *don't* uncheck "Where the message has been read" and click on the _and_
option and change it to _or_...
