You haven't concealed your address in this posting, and that suggests you
can expect to receive many more Spam messages, when the "address-harvesting"
"bots" distribute your address!
1. Right-click your name, on the "From" caption of your message, to which
I'm responding
2. Left-click "Properties" in the context ("pop-up") menu which appears.
3. The E-mail address will be displayed on the Properties display.
Also, if I'd not removed it from this reply, your address would be "in plain
view" here. (See the quotation of your original text, below my signature.)
If you've been posting messages at news groups recently, and if all your
postings revealed your address as the first message in this thread did, that
might explain the increased Spam which you've seen. You may have been
"distributing" and "publishing" your address, without knowing it.
Here's how to correct that problem:
1. In MSOE's Tools menu, left-click Accounts
2. Then, left-click the "News" tab on that "Internet Accounts" display,
3. In the display window of all the news accounts, left-click the account
for which address modification is desired (that will "select" that account),
4. Left-click the Properties button, which is on the right side of the
"Internet Accounts" tab.
5. On the "General" tab of the Properties display, it's possible to change
the "E-mail address" which is displayed, however is desired.
6. Then enter those changes by left-clicking the "OK" button at the bottom
of the tab.
When you check the Properties display of my address, you'll find only
nonsense. It might seem nice to include some "bogus" elements in the
address which you instruct MSOE to display for you in news group messages,
and then to compose a digital signature which tells readers how to alter
your "corrupted" address, so they can write to you. (You might, for
example, enter a "false" address, such as "JanieKeenan," and, in your
signature, you might say, "My name is 'Jane,' not 'Janie,' for direct
replies.") The assumption was always that the "bots" which "harvested"
addresses would be unable to use that information, would "harvest" the false
address, and therefore wouldn't invade your privacy. However, if *people*
are "harvesting" addresses, and not "software robots." you're out of luck,
aren't you? It seems best never to reveal your address in such forums as
this, even in a "coded" form.
