In some cases this can be is a good tactic instead of resynchronizing.
A problem would be that your "server" may actually be a "server farm"
and the one that you first connected to is more current than the one
that you are currently connected to. Resychronizing with the less
current server will only have the effect of making all those more current
headers being checked to appear to be invalid and hence assumed
to be "expired". Disconnecting and reconnecting gives you the chance
of A) connecting to a server other than the one that you last had
and B) gives more time for the possibility of the out-of-date server being
brought into synchronization with the others.
Of course if you are using Headers Only and trying to download the bodies
much later the same tactic might succeed for the opposite reason.
E.g. if the headers really have been aged off some of the servers
your only hope of getting bodies to match them will be to connect to one
which has been delayed in getting updated though that would be much less
likely.
There is one more factor which makes using Headers Only less robust
then it needs to be. Even though OE knows the Message-ID, which is
a more general way of specifying which message body to download,
it always requests download based on the Article# (aka sequence number)
it was given during its initial connection with whatever server that was and
whatever state its cache was in. Hence you will also see your symptom
unnecessarily if A) the different servers have the same Message-IDs but
keep them in different slots or B) if the server's cache has been reorganized.
If you can afford it changing your Synchronization method from Headers
Only to New Messages could make these problems less likely because you
could be downloading from the server which gave you the headers or
at least downloading them from a server which still keeps them in the
same place.
