So it might be resolved now, if the failing patch was the
Q837009. I used Ace Utilities and in that program the
patch showed up, I uninstalled it and dl'd it again from
the Microsoft website directly. (Not through Win Update)
I then reinstalled the patch, once again w/o A/V enabled.
I will probably now within a while if it works now or
not. The patch now shows up in the menu for uninstalling
programs. I hope that's a good sign..
I've also run all the spy/hijack/ad/-programs you posted
and some more but didn't find anything but suspected 16
cookies. All were erased with Ad-aware 6.181 pro. So now
I'll just wait and see whether this patch was the source
of frustration or if it's one of the other ones that were
installed at the same day.
