Hello,
Zone Alarm operates in this way. The commercial version, if you've
bought it, has an email scanner that does some things to the email
that comes in, but I have NEVER used it. I have kept it off and
don't bother with it. As long as OE is set up properly and you
take EXTREME care opening any and ALL attachments...
meaning DO NOT open an attachment, and make sure you view
everything in plain text, you'll be pretty safe.
Now back to ZoneAlarm, if a program tries to act as a server
and send information out, ZoneAlarm does a grand job at
detecting such programs. If you see a program that pops up
in one of the alerts, just find out what program it is, run a virus
scanner on it and maybe post the specific information about
that file to the newsgroup here. Someone will be able to help
you out with it.
