You might have to go into the Options and click on the Connections
tab and then check the Automatic detection checkbox.
Also, other things depend on how you are connecting to the Internet,
but there are a couple of things that you can do to determine if things
are set up properly.
If you start up a DOS Command prompt, you can type IPCONFIG
there and you'll see an IP address listed, a Gateway, a DNS. These
should all be present. Then you can type the following:
tracert www.microcosmotalk.com
It will list hops through to get to the destination. You don't have to
go to the website, you could use Microsoft's website, but with
Microsoft's you'll lose the packets at the last hop, because
Microsoft's websites drop all ICMP packets. This may seem a
little confusing, but what the tracert will tell you, is the time the
different routers are taking to process the information your
system is sending out. This is useful information, because you
SHOULD see the packet time increasing slightly with each hop,
and if there is a great amount of time in the initial hops, it will
indicate that there is probably some configuration problem, or
perhaps there's a problem with your ISP (the people that are
providing your Internet connection).
MicroCosmoTalk.com will return all packets sent to it. So you'll get
a full relay back and forth. The servers are located in Dallas, TX.
I'm presenting the tracert from my system, so you'll have something
to compare against.

Some of the other options that you might look at are under the
Advanced tab in the Internet Explorer Options.
There are some things there such as:
Use HTTP 1.1
Use HTTP 1.1 through Proxy.
I think by default Use HTTP 1.1 is checked off. I've never had to
use the HTTP 1.1 through Proxy, but I guess that's there for a
reason. :-)
It definitely sounds like some kind of networking issue.

The address bar in IE 6 will not function most of the time. I can type in addresses and hit the "go" arrow but nothing happens. It takes 5 or six reboots of the system to get it to function properly. Any thoughts from anyone???????
