Go to Start | Run and type msconfig and disable Norton in both the startup items and services. Then reboot and go to File | Identities and set up a new Identity. Then add the newsserver under that Identity and see if it works correctly. If it does, then you can re-enable Norton and reboot and see if it breaks things.
