Create, reply, and message windows only open minimized

I work with disabled people and have hit a snag I've not
come across before, on a client's computer.

Double clicking on a message header opens it minimized on
the task bar instead of full screen. Ditto the Reply,
Reply to All and Create windows. All the mailboxes open
full screen as normal.

I've searched high and low to find out how this occurred
and have tried to replicate the fault on my own machine,
both without success.

The client's computer is running Win XP Home Edition, IE6
and OE6.

Anyone got any ideas, please?
