Help IE6 is corrupted

I am running Windows XP Home & IE6
Some how I got IE6 corrupted - it dose not show the version number.
Can't download from some sites, like the - critical update from MS

When I wanted to log onto Hotmail, I got redirected to:

http://loginnet.passport.com/login.srf?id=2&svc=mail&cbid=24325&msppjph=1&tw=0&fs=1&fsa=1&fsat=1296000&lc=1033&_lang=EN

How can I repair IE? I tried but keep getting the message - current program
is newer than - what I want to install, so it wont.

Can anyone help me with this?
