I have not lost my thumbnails, it's the icon that has changed from IE to
something else.

How to restore HTML Thumbnail views in Windows XP SP1:

Do a search to see if you already have WEBV.DLL and THUMBVW.DLL. If you
do, and they are already in your system32 folder, you may only need to
register them. If not, extract them from the zip into
C:\Windows\System32, and go to Start<Run. Type in the commands REGSVR32
WEBVW.DLL and REGSVR32 THUMBVW.DLL and your thumbnail views should be
restored :)
