I think this problem is unique. Until yesterday I could connect to the
internet via a broadband connection. Beginning yesterday morning I have been
unable to.
I contacted my ISP and after two hours on the phone and numerous tweaks they
have conclucded that because we can ping nearly any website from the
c-prompt, then the problem must be the browser.
ping is not a good proof of HTTP connectivity.
Use telnet to open a connection to port 80 instead.
You can then even simulate a GET / command that IE
would be doing for you.
However, the problem exists
in all three browsers (IE, Opera, Firefox) and also with the iTunes and
Outlook.
Does anyone think the problem could really be my computer?
And, if so, any ideas what happened to my ability to browse?
ping has proved that you have connectivity to a DNS server
so the lookups are probably working. But ping is ICMP not HTTP
so you could have a firewall in place which is not allowing HTTP.
Thanks.
