Defender is fine and you generally don't want to have multiple programs
providing real-time protection. Again, if this happens again, I would look
for a troublesome add-on or malware.

If it happens again, check for a troublesome add-on. IE> Tools> Manage
add-ons, disable add-ons one at a time to see if you can determine which
one
is causing the problem..

It wouldn't hurt to run Ad-aware and or Spybot.

Using Win XP(SP2) and IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

IE icon on desktop would not open programme, neither could entry be
obtained
via startup menu. First time this has happened.
Closed pc down then started up. Problem now gone !!?? Scanned system
with
latest McAfee av, no problems.
Strange ........ any comments please.
