Re: Reinstalling IE6 on XP SP2

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi there,

Thank you. The branding has gone and the IEFix utility solved the Favorites
problem. I didn't realize there was another newsgroup for IE7, but I doubt
I'll be testing it again until the final release. Much appreciate the
assistance.

I don't see that they are related but I will try and answer.

First issue: (though you cannot really do a fresh install)

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in
Windows XP (Q318378)
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q318378

IEFix - is a general purpose repair utility for Internet Explorer
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Removing branding from IE6 is simple but you may have complicated it
with installing a Beta program like IE7.
How to remove branding.
To remove all Internet Explorer branding, follow these steps:
1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type

rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear

and then click OK.

4. Restart Internet Explorer.

Second issue:
I see in http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/default.mspx that
the recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

In a proper newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

If you must use a web interface:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

You cannot remove IE6 with XP and the IE7 group is the best place to
ask for IE7 problems.

Hi there,

I have two related issues. First I wish to re-install IE6 to a fresh
install in order to eradicate the branding name that shows up.

Second, I had been using the IE7 Beta 3. My Favorites will no longer
display when I click on the Star icon. They are present, just not showing
up. Also, my home page wouldn't display properly in the Beta which is why
I
removed the Beta and reverted back to 6.

So. How can I remove my IE6 as well as any residual IE7 information and
start over fresh with a whole new download and install of IE6? If you
could
point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Lynn
