It is normal for IE6 not to be listed in Add/Remove for XP.
No, you cannot add an entry as IE cannot be removed or uninstalled
from XP. You cannot revert to a previous version of IE, short of
uninstalling SP2 and I do not recommend you do that.
I really don't understand your problem.
You say IE works.
You say you have iexplore.exe so what is missing?
If just a shortcut, then create one wherever you like.

Thanx, Alan, for your quick reply..
It's a Sony VAIO PCV-RS420 desktop. The original factory-install state was:
- Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 (possibly came with SP1, but I am
sure I downloaded SP2 myself)
- Since "XP has a minimum of IE6", then IE6 is the original :p (but I did
download updates up to most-current ones )
2 Possible ways of how I obtained IE updates:
1) MS/Windows Updates -- I checked regularly besides using the Auto-updates
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
2) Automatic Updates
I checked C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ and it doesn't have a Setup
Folder which is supposed (?) to contain the intall/uninstall package. Here
are the contents:
Folders: Connection Wizard, Custom, MUI, PLUGINS, SIGNUP
Files: iedw.exe , iexplore.exe , hmmapi.dll , Q330994.cat , Q818529.cat
Then I checked my Toshiba A65 laptop which has the same platform (XP SP2 +
IE6), there's no Setup Folder for its IE6 either, same contents too.
1) So I suspect: Is it customary for IE not listed on the programs list for
ALL XP OS?
2) If so, can we add it on the list?
3) Can we download a patch for the Setup Folder only? If not, how can we
uninstall it in case we want to downgrade to an earlier version?
For my desktop, I can use VAIO Recovery Wizard to recover the whole OS to
the factory-install state (NO-NO!), or I can roll back to a previous state
(recovery point), but I dun know when my IE disappeared (or was it ever on
the list). The thing is my IE works fine (except some conflicts with Flash
and scripts that I am yet to solve), I am just uncomfortable with it not
listed on the programs list and the thought of having no control over it
(can't change/uninstall)!

If you originally had IE5, then it was probably with Win98 SE, which
you don't mention.
XP has a minimum of IE6.
It is normal that XP SP2 does not list IE in Add/Remove.
Can you please clarify what your upgrade path was?
How (or if) you can repair depends on your original (and current)
version of your operating system.
"de-select and re-select IE under the Add/Remove Windows Componets"
cannot possibly work.
The option in Add/Remove/Windows Components is exactly what it says,
i.e. "Adds or removes access to Internet Explorer from the Start menu
and Desktop". It does not remove IE.

Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 , Update Versions:
SP2
The orig version on my PC was IE 5 I believe, which, over the years, I have
upgraded it to IE 6 SP2. While snooping around looking for solution to fix
an corrupted Flash online game problem, I realized my IE 6 isn't listed on
the Add/Remove Programs List, nor any of the IE updates. Is it normal? Is
there a way to enable viewing it on the programs list?
One trick I found thru Web searches, is to "de-select and re-select IE under
the Add/Remove Windows Componets" --- that doesn't work.
One MS ariticle said that "Internet Explorer is not listed in the Add/Remove
Programs tool if you delete the uninstall (or backup) information for the
previous version of Internet Explorer." I am not sure whether I did that
when I updated it to IE 6...... Some talked about repair IE by initiating
the IE Repair tool from the command prompt and to revert to the orig version
-- I hesitate to try as I am not sure it applies to my case and of couse, the
trouble of downloading the updates afterward......
Any idea? Thanx in advance.
