Re: uninstalling IE

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I haven't tried those, what are they and where can I find them?

You cannot download any version of IE6 if you already have XP SP2.
Downloads are older versions.

Did you try the IE7 group?
....or have you managed to get rid of IE7?

Did you try IEFix or Q318378?

I tried first by re-installing the IE 6 using the download from the Microsoft
downloads section, which didn't work because It said that the version I have
is newer than the one I was trying to install, then I tried to do it by using
my Windows XP CD and selecting the repair option at startup.
Neither option worked. There has to be some kind of IE install somewhere
that will fully repair the version that I have with the SP2 features.

And I also see what you mean in the description for IE in add/remove. Sorry
about that, my mistake.

I Just hope that there is less interdependency with Vista and IE

Please give exact details of what you see in Add/Remove-Windows
Components or read it carefully.
It doe not indicate it is an uninstall.
All it says is:
"Adds or removes access to Internet Explorer from the
Start menu and Desktop"

That is exactly what it means.
It does not uninstall IE nor does it give any indication that it will.

How did you try and "repair the IE 6 install" and what exact version
do you have?

It is available in add/remove windows components, but even when I uncheck the

get the errors.

You don't uninstall IE in XP.
I think you are misreading in Add/Remove.
It is not available in Add/Remove to uninstall.

You may get some help in the IE7 group.
I see in http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/default.mspx that
the recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

In a proper newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

If you must use a web interface:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

It may not help if you have installed IE7 Beta against the warnings of
beta software but try this:

IEFix - is a general purpose repair utility for Internet Explorer
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Reinstall Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP:

Windows XP (Q318378)

I need to know exactly how to uninstall Internet explorer in Windows XP. I
have tried using the add/remove Windows components in Add/remove Programs,
but IE is still present.

The reason that I need to remove it is that after I tried the new Beta for
IE 7(Beta 2), I cannot access certain secure site that I need to get to, and
I am constantly getting errors within IE. I had already removed the IE 7
Beta, but now IE 6 isn't working properly either.

I want to fully remove IE and all of the plugins associated with it, then
re-install it from scratch using my Windows XP CD.
