cannot configure wireless

I have recently bought a new computer and ahve been
trying to let it connect to my wireless linksys system.
The first thing I did after I connected to the internet
is donwload antivirus software and ZoneAlarm. I setup
zonealarm, but for osme reason I cannot connect to the
internet anymore. I than deleted zonealarm to try and
prevent it from restricting me from connecting to the
internet. But alas, I still cannot connect to the
internet. Does anybody reccomend anything?

Note: I think it might help if I talked about something
which I think is related to the prevention of allowing me
to connect to the internet. When I right click on the
little wireless button in the taskbar, and click "view
available wireless networks" a window appears which
says "the connection is not protected. click this box to
allow connection" so i click the box and than click
connect, which had previously been blanked out. But, the
second the box automatically closes it severs the
connection, and when I bring up the window again, hte box
is their unchecked, so I have to check it off and click
connect again. I thank anybody if they would possibly
help with this problem.
