maximizing IE screens while surfing

For some reason when i open my internet up the IE screen only takes up half the screen, I have tried dragging the window open more on the sides, as well as the maximize button on the top right of the screen, but nothing works. If I go to "view" I can switch to "full screen" but thats not the usual web surfing browser and its a pain to have to do that every time i open a new page. I have also do many virus, spyware scans but to no success. Any help would be great.
