What fix is that specifically?
What version of mshtml.dll do you have?
What version of mshtml.dll was the fix installing? (Look in the Security
bulletin and you may have to expand some content indicated as being
hidden by [+].)
Were you running any security programs when the install portion
of the update was being done (including the boot which should
have been required but which you haven't mentioned)?
All of your problems could be due to something, such as an
anti-virus program, being active when the update needed to copy
the new version of the system modules, thus preventing the update
from completing. Hence: you would have the same broken version
of mshtml.dll that you are trying to get rid of, you would not perceive
any improvement from installing the patch, and you would be reoffered
the patch because Windows Update would detect that it had not been
applied properly.
