David in San Diego,

I had almost the same problem except My IE won't remember passwords. I kept trying to use the "Clear Passwords" button and I received the infamous perpetual hour glass and the Control Panel would be listed as "Not Responding" under the Task Manager. The only way p\out was to "End Task".

I was able to finally clear my passwords (I think) by clearing everything else first. If it hed "Delete" as an option I used it. Delete Cookies, Delete Forms, Delete Files... everything I could find. Finally the Clear Passwords button "worked" or at least it didn't freeze up.

To the best of my knowledge I have not deleted the Protected Storage Registry. I HAVE tried everything else, though. I've repaired IE, downloaded all possible updates, set, reset and reset (again), reset (and reboot) the Auto Complete Settings. I have not been able to figure it out.

Any Ideas?

     Ramesh,

Thanks so much. The System Restore rollback worked! Now
I have to figure out (and I'll repost a new subject about
it) why under Internet Options/Content/AutoComplete, I am
unable to clear AutoComplete History so I can "start
over" without deleting the Protected Storage registry.

Presently (and this was why I originally "tampered" with
the registry and lost the Protected Storage key until you
rescued me), all attempts to "clear forms," for example,
results in a perpetual "hourglass hang" before IE6
finally stops responding and then crashes.

     Any ideas again?
