Re: IE 6 not loading

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

It was a clean install using a genuine xp service pack 2 disc.

A retail WinXP SP2 CD or the Recovery CD that came with your machine?

...I only have the security suite that comes with xp installled

WinXP SP2 doesn't include a security suite, just the Windows Firewall. IIf you used a Recovery CD, it may have reinstalled the free-trial security suite but it can't be used and must be uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs and replaced. See below.

...I have activated windows update

You may have enabled Automatic Updates but have you gone to Windows Update website to make sure the machine's fully patched yet?

software is installed. I have activated windows update. I have talked to my
ISP and performed several tests and checks and discovered that IE 6 was not
showing a IP address, which as I understand is required to access the
internet. Please tell me how I can get an IP address for my PC as I t hink
this will solve all my problems.

Did you do a Repair Install or a clean install of Windows?

Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update now?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?
