Re: IE6 Scripting Problesm

I have nothing further to suggest here.

Tried Safe Mode with Networking - same problems.

Try any/all of those things after rebooting into Safe Mode with Networking.

Followed your instructions and still no success. Cannot see scripted
content on msnbc, cannot install MSN Premium and am not able to use my new
HP scanner on this account. I appreciate your continued suggestions. I
am
getting close to reinstalling XP. Any last thoughts before I take that
step?

1. Uninstall the McAfee application via Add/Remove Programs & reboot.

2. If the older McAfee application is listed (again) in Add/Remove
Programs, uninstall it, too.

3. IMPORTANT! => enable the Windows Firewall.

4. Run this removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1

[Take a look at the log it creates before you delete it!]

5. Download/install Avira AntiVir (free), at least temporarily:
http://www.free-av.com/

[Your anti-virus application should be configured to seek and install
updates automatically, daily, at a time when the machine is usually
running
and connected to the internet. It should also be configured to run a
full
system scan a few minutes after seeking/installing updates, also daily.
Anything less is simply insufficient these days.]

Does the behavior persist now?

The computer has McAfee from MSN. I don't believe I ever had Norton on

latest release.

...the computer has McAfee Security

McAfee Security Center (e.g., from your ISP or Yahoo) or McAfee
Internet
Security?

Was another McAfee application ever installed on the machine at any
time
in
the past? How about a Norton application?

Created a new account and it exhibits the same behavior as my wife's
account. No scripting on webpages using ie6. Also, just installed new
MFPrinter and it wont scan on my wife's account. Cannot create msxml
instance. Is this related?

I didn't ask if the behavior occurred in any other existing User
Accounts,
I asked if it was seen in a new User Account that had been used for a
few
days.

No. My user account works fine, but my wife's is the problem
account.
Again, on her account certain websites do not work properly. If she
uses
Firefox instead of IE6, they work fine. The problem is she can't
even
run
MSN software because she can't get to the sign-in screen. I know
that
uses
IE in the background.

Sorry 'bout that.

Tell me this: Does the behavior persist in a new User Account after
using
it for a few days?

I am talking about one computer with two different user accounts.
One
account is fine, the other has several ie6 related issues.

Not sure it is relevant, but the computer has McAfee Security and
Windows
Defender. The machine is fully patched with all automatic updates.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed on the
problem
machine? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What
third-party firewall (if any)? Are the same versions of all of
them
installed on the other machine?

Are both machines fully patched at Windows Update?

Mapquest directions give a scripting error. MSNBC.com will not
allow
me to set my location and give local news. The MSN Premium
sign-in
screen
will not load - says there is a connect error when I am connect
to
the internet.
I have matched all security settings between both users so I
fear
there is
some registry issue with one account. Short of creating a brand
new
account, any ideas for a fix?
