Ever since I installed my latest Norton version, my pop-ups are no longer being blocked. I contacted them about it, and apparently they've removed that feature from their product, but said that my IE settings and either Google or Yahoo toolbar should take care of it. Well, it's not.....I have both my IE privacy setting and Google toolbar setting set to block popups, but they are still coming through. Anyone know how I might correct this situation?
Give an example web page where the popups are not being blocked. They may not be popups at all but CSS used to make a floating frame *look* like a popup. IE's popup blocker is weak. If you visit www.popuptest.com, few popup types are blocked. Google's Toolbar will block more types of popups. 3rd party popup blockers, like PopupCop will block even more but you can configure "irritiation levels" to decide just what you do and do not want blocked.
CNN.com is one example. The advertisements on that page used to be blocked, but now come through.
I thought you were asking about popups. Now you are talking about ads in the web page. Blocking popups does not get rid of ads.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Google toolbar, and now it's not blocking anything, where it used to.
The Google Toolbar never did block ads. It blocked some popups.
Norton is a brand, not a product name. Norton Internet Security Suite had an ad-blocking feature based on URL strings. Maybe that is what they removed. That blocked ads, not popups. Google's Toolbar blocks popups, not ads. So now you have to find something that blocks *advertisements*.
Are you saying the "ads" are displayed in popups at www.cnn.com? I don't get any popups when I visit that page (and PopUpCop is not reporting that it has blocked popups at that page although maybe the URL blocking of ads that I have in IE7Pro is preventing me seeing whatever you see).
