Windows XP FAQ

Greetings;

I have Windows XP Professional and use Explorer 6.0 and have a problem
which I cannot seem to solve.

Internet Explorer will not run any shortcuts placed on my desktop even
though it will run the shortcuts in <Favorites> just fine.
Additionally, since the problem surfaced a few days ago, the items in my
Favorites listing all have a .url extension showing which they did not
do before.

I have tried to correct the association but it shows that the shortcut
is associated to the "Shell Doc Object and Control Library" and it will
not change. I have looked at the Microsoft website and it mentions a
similar problem but the advice to fix it is relevant to Windows 2000 and
Windows NT.

Has anyone had a problem like this? Any advice on how to fix it will be
greatly appreciated, or if you can point me to a website that can help.

Kindest Regards
Paul
