Johan - Glad to hear you got your Java working. Thanks for the feedback.
Hopefully others will find it very useful. Good work on your part, too!
As for your WMP issues, see this general troubleshooting article for
possible help:
Frequently asked questions about how to troubleshoot issues in Windows Media
Player

& Q6 under the "Solving playback problems" section.
If no joy, there are MVPs in the WMP newsgroup that would be able to offer
better help in this area:

Hi Jon,
I followed your instructions and it WORKS. Java works now correctly.
Many
times Thanks. However, it didn't go easy.
The key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft and all its subkeys had
nothing
in the permissions field, there was no info whatsoever in the permissions.
When I tried to delete the key there was an error "Cannot delete JavaSoft:
Error while deleting key"
I solved that problem but it took quite some time to find out how. I
solved
the missing permissions of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft by adding
USERS\Administrator to the JavaSoft Key Permission field and gave it all
Write and Read permissions. After that I could delete the JavaSoft Key.
Java works correctly now. What a hassle, what a hassle.
By the way. I also have problems with Windows Media Player. I have sound
but never any video (always black). I reverted back several times to the
old
version and forward to wmp10 but still the video itself does not work, not
any video in version (9, 10, 11) is working, sound always works though.
It
looks like there is a problem with the wmp core engine itself. I think
something must be wrong with the registry keys. Do you have any idea how
to
check out the wmp keys??
Note, if I double-click
c:\program files\windows media player\wmplayer.exe (version 10)
the wmp pops-up and plays sound but no image for *.wmv and *.mpg files.
On the ohter hand, mplayer2.exe (version 6.4.9) in the same wmp folder
does
work correctly for *.mpg and *.wmv files.
Also mplays32.exe in c:\WINDOWS\system32 works just fine for *.mpg and
*.wmv files.
So what is going on with wmplayer.exe (version 9, 10, 11) in my case?
Is it possible to remove ALL components of wmp(10) and then reinstall from
scratch (clean install), as can be done with RealPlayer??
Johan
