Hi Richard,
Click on Connections Tab then under:
Dial up and Virtual Network settings:
Say : DE COM
Click on the Settings button then on the DE COM properties setting window
click on Properties.
On the General Tab under the option for :
Connect using:
Standard Modem click on configure Button.
On the modem properties you will see these two check boxes:
[ ] Bring up terminal Window before dialing
[ ] Bring up Terminal window after dialing check both.
Also look on the Server Tab and the Scripting Tab.

I don't have immediate access to the two problem computers, but in reviewing my computers (several) I cannot find the references you mention. What version of Windows are you using?
