Re: Internet Explorer no longer works after computer crash

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Having the same problem , this took place end of Nov. 06 , did the MS
grief , still not working , have Fire Fox , that stopped the same time
, logged in another user account , same computer , IE and Fire Fox
worked under the other account but that account is limited. Downloaded
both Fire Fox and IE , first uninstalled what showed up in uninstall ,
reloaded , no help , can not find my disk , so scf /scannow and
anything else that demands the disk dose not work .
Now there is nothing related to Internet explorer under uninstall , hit
the link to read article , it did not open , downloaded VM , ran scan ,
it said missing a role up or update , did not identify what one, I was
sure this was up to date , MS will not scan with Fire Fox.
Had just received updated prior to IE and Fire Fox stopping , also
Explore is corrupt .
Tried to identify last MS Update to see if that is the cause , no luck
..
Migration is not an option for fear of losing files , as mentioned
other user name is limited and can not open MY Documents ,
Administrator only .
Downloaded several different programs from ZDNET , none helped , even
Tune-Up Utilities crashes when under 1-Click or attempting to Optimize
Internet under both accounts , C000ID error races up until it crashes.
Have never seen Tune-Up Utilities Crash !
Frustrating , any clue what has caused this ? Or another fix ?
Can not use an XP Home disk , this is 2000 Professional.
kb/293907 did not help .

I have a user that is running Windows 2000 professional and IE 6. Last week
he says his computer locked up and shut down on him, and when he logged back
on he could no longer access the internet via IE6. I can use IE just fine
while logged on under Administrator, but cannot under his user profile. I
think his profile has been corrupted somehow which in now blocking internet
access, if you try to acces the internet the browser starts and then just
locks up and stops responding. I have run Windows Update and installed the
latest patches and updates, as well as Adaware and Spybot and Norton
Antivirus with latest virus definitions. Is there anyway to repair the user
profile to change anything on the system that would allow him to use IE
again? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,
If it was a user profile, you need to create a new profile for this user and
Transfer the Data from th corupt old profile then Delete the old corrupted
profile.
But does the user have trouble with any things else on the machine other
than IE?.
If not then the Profile may not corrupt and you need is Repair IE,to do that
through the Control Panel >> Add/Remove progrmas (XP) and Install/Uninstall
tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools, click add/Remove
and select Repair.
Here how to uninstall/Repair IE6 on 2000:
