Re: FTP Access

Hi Nass,

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. But last night I had it. So I
uninstalled IE7 and it automatically went back to IE6.
With the registry key settings you mentioned still intact, IE6 works
perfectly. Windows Explorer works too.

FYI, I did not install a beta version of IE7. I had a full working version
of IE7 installed.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Nass,

Excellent!!!! The following settings were missing and after entering
them,
it worked on stations we were having problems with IE6:
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\ftp =
[ab] (Default) REG_SZ URL:File Transfer
Protocol
[ab] EditFlags REG_DWORD 0x000000002 ( )
[ab] ShellFolder REG_SZ
{63da--------------------------------00000}
[ab] SourceFilter REG_SZ {
770}
[ab] URLProtocol REG_SZ

But the above settings didn't work with one station where we're using
IE7.
Any suggestions?

Hi Nass,

1. Unfortunately the space in the URL ftp://accountname :
password@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/ will cause the browser to drop the
password.
So this still didn't work.
I don't have any firewalls turned off. I've even turned off the
Windows
Firewall in Control Panel.
2. I've also tried uncheck'g "use passive FTP"

Same problem still occurs.

Any other thoughts?

Hi,

Our office purchased HP xw4200 & xw6200 & xw6400 machines running
XP
SP2.
We have no problems accessing FTP sites from the URL on the 4200 &
6400.
But on the 6200s, IE6 and IE7 will not connect to the ftp sites
using
the
following address protocol:
ftp://username:password@hostname
We've tried running & installing Window Updates.
We've tried matching all the IE settings on the xw6200 machines
with
the
others like:
1. turning off "Show friendly HTTP error messages",
2."Enable folder view for FTP sites"
3. "Use Passive FTP"

But it still doesn't work. Any thoughts?

Hi Paul,
1 = Try this, type this line for the FTP in the URL box:
ftp://accountname : password@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/

Do you have the Port ( 20, 21 ) assigned in exception on the
*Firewall*
(Either Third party Firewall or Windows Firewall) to allow traffic
from
and
to them.

2= Go to the IE Properties and uncheck this:
[ ] use passive FTP (for firewall and DSL Modem capability)

Read this article about FTP Switches and commands:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ftp__mget.mspx?mfr=true

Hi A+p,
1 = Open the Controol Panel >> Click on Add/Remove programs >> Click on
Add
Windows Components and the wizard will open the Windows Components
window.
There scroll and highlight this Option:
[ ] Internet Information Services (IIS) check this box

Then click on Details button down the bottom of the window.
On the new window under this option check the option for FTP:
Subcomponent of the Internet Information Services:
[ ] File Transfer Protocol (ftp) Service check this box click
Ok
to confirm, you may be asked to insert your XP CD to install.

Reboot your machine and see if you could access FTP protocol service.

2 = If still no joy open the Registry Editor and locate these KEYS:
[+] HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FTP =
[ab] Use PASV REG_SZ yes
[ab] Use Web Based FTP REG_SZ yes

[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\ftp =
[ab] (Default) REG_SZ URL:File Transfer
Protocol
[ab] EditFlags REG_DWORD 0x000000002 ( )
[ab] ShellFolder REG_SZ
{63da--------------------------------00000}
[ab] SourceFilter REG_SZ {
770}
[ab] URLProtocol REG_SZ
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Telnet
The same as above what you can see of entries there!.
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\HTTP= >
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\HTTPS= >

[+] HKEY_USERS\ 1-S-13344---- \Softwares\microsoft\ftp =

It is best if you match the settings between the working one and this
one
and see what you can spot diffrenet or you can Add up to the unworking
one
to
configure it correctly.

HTH.
Please let us know your findings.

Hi A+P,
Try to open the FTP in * windows Explorer* and type the command for it
like
this:
ftp://username:password@xxxxxxxxxx or
ftp://username:password@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx/

Did you have IE7 Beta installed before installing the Final release of
IE7,
if so did you uninstall the Beta and installed the final release or you
installed the final release on the Beta version?.

Open the Windows Explorer and go to to Tools >> Folder Options and click
on
File Type then scroll down to this:
[ftp] (NONE) URL: File Transfer Protocol
Click on Advanced and on Edit button see the Settings there and match it
froma working IE7 machine;
Here is the IE6 settings:
Application used to perform action:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe"%1

[ ] Use DDE

DDE:
"%",,-1,0,,,
Aplication:

DDE Application not runing:
