Disabling IE6

I'm trying to find a way to get iexplore.exe to stop opening by itself. I don't even use IE, I switched to FF months ago but constantly find iexplore.exe opened in the task manager. No web page is open with IE just the iexplore.exe in the task manager. If I do open a page with IE and X it out that doesn't get rid of iexplore.exe in the task manager either. I have to right click on it and end task it. I've blocked all access to IE thru my firewall as well as a fake proxy setup of 0.0.0.0 in the IE settings and iexplore.exe still opens. I've tried the remove windows components in the control panel to disable IE and it did nothing. I've even tried to cut the iexplore.exe from the folder and paste it elsewhere so it wouldn't be able to run but Windows created a new iexplore.exe.
Can someone shed any light on why iexplore.exe keeps opening on its own and how to get it to stop once and for all?
