I am trying to make some icons permanent.
I just saved Google's favicon to a permanent folder and renamed it.
I am trying to get this one
http://dictionary.reference.com/favicon.ico
When I try to save it, the there is no default favicon.icon.
Details? How are you trying to do that?
I just did right-click, Save Picture As...
It is trying to get me to save it as a bitmap. This doesn't show up as
an icon would.
Yes it will, provided you leave the .ico extension on it.Would you try the one at the link I provided? I have been able to save
the one at Google and a few other places by going to the favicon
directory on the web, but for some reason this one does not work.
It worked fine. Did you try the rightclick, Save *Picture* As... item?
Also, I have searched my hard drive for favicon.ico and none show up.
I have my view settings set to show hidden files.
That may not work for searching the TIF folder...
Hmm... in fact, it does! (Wow.) And you can identify the favicon.ico
file you want to copy by its icon or at least by the tooltip which shows
the originating URL. Neat.
The simplest way to do that is to open the TIF Viewer.
Keystrokes: Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V and then press F3 in the resulting
Explorer window. Then what I think happens is that the Search Companion
window is allowing you to search within the TIF Name field for favicon.ico
So then once you have them listed there you can just drag them
to another Explorer window open where you want to save them.
Etc.
BTW there is something wrong with your Google editor.
Somehow my quotes ended up being quoted with yours.
I have repaired two of the most misleading cases.
HTH
