Re: ActiveX problem ?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks Robert,

Prob. was due to not allowing ActiveX, relaxed security for named sites in
Trusted Sites Zone but had to relax them in Internet Zone as well, and in
Advanced Settings.

on that page i.e. the "drop-down" slots and next page won't work/appear
unless the Internet Zone security is reduced to "medium."

I see no such link on "that page".
There is a link there labeled "Route Map"
which leads here

http://www.directferries.co.uk/routes.htm

which also uses Macromedia Flash,
so I suspect whatever it is that you are referring to
also would be implemented with Macromedia Flash.
As I said, Macromedia Flash requires that ActiveX controls
be allowed.

Hint: once you have enabled ActiveX right-click on the object
and see whether it says "About Macromedia Flash..."

...latest Java is installed.

I see no sign of Java being used to implement anything on those pages.

Can anyone tell my why
http://www.directferries.co.uk
won't work properly unless IE6's Internet Zone security is dragged down
a
notch from High.

Specify what "won't work properly" means.

There are ads in that page which use Macromedia Flash
which is implemented as an ActiveX control.
So you won't see them if ActiveX is disabled,
as it is in the default High level security setting.

Before reducing that zone setting, "we" added the above
web address to the Trusted Sites Zone list | quit IE6 | cleared cookies
and
TIF | restarted IE6 and went back to that site and it still wouldn't
load.
IE6 status bar was showing the Trusted Sites symbol + mixed content
upon
going to the site. Trusted sites slider is set to low, btw.

Progressing into the site e.g. clicking "SeaFrance" (screenleft), and
then
trying to "calculate" a crossing, the URL changes to
https://priclub.directferries.com so of course we had to stuff that
into
the
Trusted Sites zone list as well !

I wondered if the site uses ActiveX because I keep coming across sites
where, even after adding the URL into the Trusted Sites zone list, they
won't work properly in the browser window until the security setting
for
the
Internet zone is reduced - which is simply not good enough !

TIA
