Re: IE6 Won't let me See Graphics

Well, since I wrote that "Quote" about CA... I'll try...even though it
sounds like
you have absolute paths now and that is working fine.

As I found with my website, I was seeing my relative path images
on other computers, but not mine. When I looked at my website
I only got the textual links...when I did View Source on the website, to
see what the browser had done to the code...I saw my index.html page
but without the IMG path code lines...they had been removed...and I saw
a Zone Labs Privacy Insertion line of code with some javascript tagging
stuck in there...in the overall text, not in place of the img code.

So it got me to thinking. I use Computer Associates for my firewall and my
virus checker. HOWEVER, Internet Explorer also has the ability to turn off
popups, set privacy levels and so forth. AND Windows has a built in
Firewall
that you can use.

I was, in my struggles to fix the problem, trying all the IE6 settings...and
I even
turned off the Windows internal Firewall. This was good, since you really
shouldn't
have two firewalls on at the same time..in my case I had Windows and CA EZ
Firewall
both running.

Anyway, trying to fix by just turning off the Windows firewall didn't work.
So I turned off
all protections on IE6, and that didn't work. After some more aggravated
thought, reviewing
this site, searching Google for Zone Labs Privacy Insertion, I realized that
I probably didn't
need to undo several Windows Updates...toolate, I already had...

Anyway, it turns out that my other firewall ...in my case CA EZ
Firewall...was the culprit.
It was blocking all Ads and all Popups. So I turned that off. It also has
trusted sites, just like IE6,
so I added my website into the trusted sites list.

That combo fixed the problem for me. My firewall was blocking the images,
or trying to, sometimes
an image got through, but perhaps because it got through first on another
page and now that it was there it was no longer considered a threat. who
knows...

As to the exact combo...undo updates, turning off popups, ads and adding in
trusted zones--I had added my site to both my IE trusted zones and the CA EZ
firewall trusted sites...well, I turned popup blocking back on in IE (not in
EZ firewall) and reset IE to default security (medium). I'm letting IE do
the Ad and Popup security, rather than my CA EZ firewall. So far, no more
Zone Labs insertions on a View Source check on the live page, and so far,
all seems to be working fine.

I think the real issue is how dual firewalls and/or dual popup blocking,
security, etc from IE vs your external firewall works or interferes with
your settings. Just dealing with IE settings is not enough, if you have
a firewall in use that is other than Windows internal firewall.

Does this help? or hinder?

I am the creator of these sites. I know what's supposed to be there also.
I
cannot seem to navigate to the exact place you were at on ca.com website.

Quote" I went into the EZ Firewall (by CA) and clicked on the (vertical)
Privacy
Tab, then clicked on
the Sites tab (horizontal top location) and added in my site to the
allowed
list."

Please help me. I don't understand this. I haven't had this software on
my
computer in over a year. And I can't find a trace of it still on my
hardrive. Thanks for your help in advance.

Not specifically but I think I'm in the ball park.
And just to be clear, I don't think your issue is reverse of mine. It
seems
to be the same issue.
I just happen to be the creator of the website in question therefore, I
know
what I'm suppose to be seeing..

While creating the website, I can link words to another html page okay.
This comes across as a regular Hyperlink. If I take a graphics (like
photos) and link it to an html page (only). The graphics won't show up
when
viewing the website. But the problem is only when viewing the website
with
my work computer. My home computer and everybody else viewing the
website
does not have a problem. Only I have the issue and only with my work
computer (which coincidently is the computer used to create the website).

One a test drive, this is what I've done:
I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat 7.5 Professional ... had no affect
I uninstalled Roxio Easy Media Creator 8.5... had no affect
I uninstalled Norton System Works (Anti-virus, password manager, &
Symantec
Utilities)... had no affect.
I uninstalled Zone Alarm (ZA is a firewall system)...

When I rebooted, I was able to see everything fine. Now I was happy.
Then,
to test it thoroughly, I reloaded ZoneAlarm. The issue, of not seeing
the
linked graphics, came back. Therefore I thought for sure that it was
ZoneAlarm (ZA). So I uninstalled ZA again. This time, it did NOT fix
the
problem. So I'm confused as to what happened.

I think it is a software conflict. I'm not sure why I was able to
resolve
it for a short time, before the problem came back. Now I can't seem to
recreate the situation that caused it to work correctly.

I will try to do more testing. Fortunate, I had everything loaded on
separate harddrive, therefore, I am able to test this out. Let me know
if
you find anything out or if you have any of the same software loaded on
your
computer.

Have you found the solution to this problem? I am experiencing the
same
problem only reversed. My website will show fine on others computers
but
not
on my own.

this to
happen?
