I have a relatively new pc which came with windows xp sp2 pre-installed -
therefore no cd-rom available to reinstall or repair if called upon when
using the System File Checker tool etc. However it is a HP Pavilion machine
with system recovery dvd etc. and also hard disk partition etc.

IE 6 xp sp2 was infiltrated recently by some form of spyware. My Norton
software dealt with it after the event but since then my browser often
unexpectedly shuts down suggesting that "Manage Add-Ons" is the culprit. I
have disabled all add-ons including the suspect (winbrume.dll). I have also
unchecked "Enable third-party browser extensions" in Tools>Internet
options>Advanced without success.

The problem only arose initially with certain websites; e.g. when i hit the
search button on Thomson.co.uk holiday website. More recently, I have
experienced it when reaching the end of a website purchase or when clicking
back to a previous page on a few websites during e.g. a google search. I have
been reading around this issue for some time now without success. Can someone
come to my rescue please. Note, I have now started using "Firefox" instead,
it has been reliable to date for me - no problems.
