Hello Don.
Things worked just fine in safe-mode, what made me, as you indicate,
suspect
another application to block that kind of javascript window. I am running
Norton Internet Security 2005 on my PC and I thought that when this was
disabled, all services running here was disabled - but no....
I found in the AntiSpam section a popup blocker, too, and when disabling
this the problem could no longer be recreated. Now I just need to find out
how to configure this popup blocker in order to leave out the britannica
page.
Again thanks so much for your interest and parcipitation!
Have a nice day.
Best regards,
Anders

Hi,
Test your Javascript capability at this JavaScript Test Page:
http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/go/EXPLORIT/java/IntroJavaScript.html

Will the new window open if you use Ctrl+click?

Will the new window open if you startup in Safe Mode with Networking?
That
would point to a third-party program that doesn't load in Safe Mode.

Hi Don.

- I have checked and made sure that the popup-blocker is disabled
- The firewall was temporary disabled
- No Google, MSN or Ebay toolbar installed
- *.britannica.com was added to trusted sites

I'm sorry to say, none of this helped a bit. It cannot be a damaged
browser/browserfiles causing this as we have two independant Win XP
SP2
computers experiencing the very same problem.
We also have an old Win 2000 SP 4 pc running, and here things works
just
fine in MSIE 6.
My Win XP SP 2 at work does not experience the subject problem.

Hi,
Is a firewall or other third-party security program blocking
scripts,
scripting, active content? Are you sure that a pop-up blocker isn't
running?
Yahoo toolbar? Google toolbar? MSN toolbar?

Or...
Try placing the site in Trusted Sites (Internet Options> Security.)
Uncheck
"Require server verification" and enter the site as
*.britannica.com

Also try...
Clear out the Temporary Internet Files. IE> Tools> Internet Options>
General> Delete files (and delete offline content.) It's often
recommended
that the TIF folder be kept at about 50-60 MB (Settings.)

Hello.
When I visit a particular site,
http://www.britannica.com/dday/browse?browseId=237176, holding
Interactive
Charts and Maps, absolutely nothing happens when I click the
thumbnails in
order to view the maps, ect. This problem is present on my own
desktop
PC
(win XP Sp2) and also on my fiancee's Laptop (also Win XP SP2). I
am
so
fortunate to run a desktop PC having Win XP SP 2 at work, but here
the
links works just fine. This is odd!
I have tried to compare the security settings as well as the
advanced
settings in Internet Explorer, but haven't fount the culprit so
far. I
also
disabled the popup blocker function, but this did not help either.
Could
someone please help? Thanks, Anders, Denmark.
