Re: 'save target as' not working properly

Hi Jean-David :-)

Jan,

Thanks for your concern and reply. After much despair, I found that part
of
the problem with IE was with a winsock dll , a winsock32 and a
kernel32.dll.
Fortunately, my avast antivirus had saved a copy of all which allowed me
to
replace them. IE ambles along albeit without the mouse right click that
enables the image toolbar although that is enabled in the advanced
options. I
guess I'll have to live with that. Life with Windows sure is interesting
and
sleep depriving (Smile).

Yes...agreed Windows is interesting....and sleep depriving. But, one of the
reasons I hang out here. <very big grin>

I'm still looking for a solution.

Me too. When you find it, I hope you will post back here and let us all
know what it was. <Smile>

Hi Steve :-)

A full Cache can often cause download problems, first try the
following:

Clearing the Temporary Internet Cache -
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

and

Try IEFix: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

If still no joy, try a system restore to a date and time prior to
installing
the Windows Defender Beta, and see if that will help. If that is not
possible, or does not resolve the problem, then
try a repair of your OS. You can try the INF method, or the
following.
It
is an simple repair, but, either way, I strongly suggest that you back
up
any valuable data first.

Hope this helps.

When I try to download a file using 'save target as' in IE6 SP2, all
works
as usual at first. I am offered a choice of place to save,
downloading
seems to begin as normal but then the saving screen disappears
suddenly
and no file has been downloaded. All files seem to be affected.
There
is
a background to this. I uninstalled Windows Defender Beta2 and
SpyWareblaster recently. Uninstallation did not go smoothly with
Windows
Defender. Sfc /scannow shows no problem. Any ideas? I am familiar
with
using regedit.

Is reinstalling IE6 using the INF method (I have made a slipstreamed
version of XP Pro SP2 and have it on my hard drive) likely to
correct
the
fault?.

Steve

Well well well, faced with basically the same problem, I tried the
IEFIX.
Now IE simply refuses to open with the message that it is unable to
download from whatever site I am trying to log on to. What's more, my
system restore no longer opens properly and I am presented with a
blank
screen. Thankfully I had installed FIREFOX as a backup to IE thus
enabling me to get on the net. Any suggestions to get me out of this?

Thanks,

So....did you read this part as well?
