I downloaded IE6 SP1 but setup says "a more recent version is already
installed" and refuses to install.

I have tried to access Windows Update (to repair IE) with Firefox but as I
guess you know that will not work either.

My OS was pre installed so I do not have an XP install disc.

Things look gloomy, I can see a small problem turning into a formatted
