Actually I've already got Firefox and (even more fortunate right now) a
spare PC so at least I can get access to the internet.
I've managed to scan the PC with Hijack This as well as Homecall on top
of my usual anti malware app which didn't find a thing.
I tried your IE7 beta fix but that didn't work either. My *really*
essential plugin won't work on IE7 either so I can't really substitute
that right now either.
Unfortunately, I decided to try a repair install of XP and now things
are even worse with repair install hanging with 34 minutes to go.
I tried the usual fix of removing all peripherals and disabling every
non essential from the BIOS but that has fixed things either.
So now that PC is completely brain dead. I've still got access to that
PC's hard disk so I would like (if possible) to reset the 'repair
install' as I think I may have given it the wrong drivers the first
time around. Anyone know how? The first time I attempted the repair
install (with everything still connected) I got type in the reg key but
since my many retries I don't get that anymore. I've got the feeling
that if I can start from scratch, I might be bale to get the thing
going again but don't know how. As I said, I can still access that HD
so if anyone knows what temporary files hold what, maybe I could
persuade the repair install to start from scratch again. Off to another
newsgroup now to see how I can get out of this particular frying pan
I've manged to jump into.
