It appears that, in the interim, the seemingly intermittent problem may have

Please include all parts of the previous message in your replies. Yes, I
gave you a variety of possible fixes as you did not state your version of
Windows, thus, I could only try to guess at what might be a fix for you.
You still have not told us what type of connection you are using.
For now, forget working in the Registry for the moment, but, we'll first
back it up, then take the easier steps. To back up your Regitry, do the
following:

Then click the link below, when the dialog box comes up click Save and
save it to a folder on your hard drive where you will know where to find
it easily.

Close all instances of IE
Open WIndows Explorer (not IE) and navigate to the folder on the hard
drive where you saved the file above. Double click on it to run it and
then close Windows Explorer.
Open IE and see if the problem is resolved.
If not, then try the following:
Click the link below, when the dialog box comes up click Save and save it
to a folder on your hard drive where you will know where to find it
easily. This will restore your default Search functionality.

I'm sorry. I have Windows XP. It is not clear if you are giving 5
different alternatives. I am not used to editing registries and don't
know the implications of setting it to default but, given that I don't
really know much about modifying them, would rather not do that.
It seems like your first choice is the easiest please just tell me how to
check the registry. Please tell me the command(s) to check. Also how to
back it up first, if that is necessary.

Check the Registry to see if this file is there. Sometimes during

In the midst of some serious anti-spam fighting, I seem to have messed
up my internet connection on one of my computers.
I normally connect through a router to my broadband connection.
If I click on internet explorer, my Google comes up fine. Most of the
sites in the drop down, or already listed as favorite places, work fine.
It does NOT say working offline or anything like that. Or if I click on
a URL sent to me, it goes there.
But, if I type that same URL that I clicked on, or type any other URL,
into the address bar, a dialog box pops up telling me the address is not
available offline, and asking me if I want to connect or work offline.
If I hit connect, it brings up a VPN connection log in box long ago
installed on this computer, which is not what I want to use to surf the
web.
It seems that, for prior sites, it knows to use my broadband connection
but for URL's typed directly into the address bar, it gets confused.
How do I fix this?
