You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but, try the following and see
if it helps:
First....Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions
If this resolves the problem then you are infected and need to clean your
system, see Step 2 below. If not, then continue with Step 1.

Update your scripting engine. The latest scripting engine can

Clear your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies, including the Offline
files. Clear the History.
Be sure that you check the Information Bar at the top of the window in case
you need to allow ActiveX Control. Or, if necessary:

For diagnostic purposes, do the following as they may apply to your OS and
checking the site again after each step to see which one may be causing the
problem:
Disable anything Norton
Disable the XP SP2 firewall and any 3rd party firewall. Any firewall
program you use, such as Zone Alarm, can block sites and their cookies that
are required by some sites.
Disable all 3rd party toolbars, such as Google, MSN or Yahoo.
If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it, as it is known to cause various
problems
Disable any 3rd party Cookie, popup or ad blockers
Check to see that you don't have Flash blocked if you have it. Some sites
require Flash
If you have SpyBot installed, check to see that you don't have that site
blocked, or it's Cookies.
On some secure sites you MUST take their cookies, and 3rd party cookies too.
Go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>
Uncheck Popup blocker
Set the Security slider bar to Medium
Click the Advanced button
Check the box next to "Override automatic cookie handling.
Click the Sites button, and be sure the site you need is not in the list. If
it is, remove it by typing the site into the top window and click the Allow
button.
Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). Windows XP.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
It may be a hidden file, if you don't find it readily, enable Hidden Files
to find it.
To see if it is the culprit, rename the HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS.
Try the site again.
If still no joy...then do the following:
Secure sites: Make sure your firewall is not blocking port 443.
Go to Start | Run and enter these commands (press <Enter after each one).

Step 2. If still no joy, try this:
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions
If this allows you to access the page, then go find the scumware that is
causing the problem. Be aware, your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of
warez, Trojans, malware, worms, etc., and neither can other adware or
spyware related programs such as AdAware and SpyBot. They don't have the
proper definitions. They must also be run in Safe Mode with Hidden Files
enabled in order to fully scan all files. Even if you have run such
programs and nothing shows up, it does not mean your system is clean. It
takes a series of programs to fully clean your machine. Some very aggressive
and damaging variants of malware can replicate themselves repeatedly, or
mutate, if not removed properly. Follow the steps here:

I get this message lately when I try to visit some of my favorite websites
and the report says it has to do with Java. (It happens before I connect
to
them.) I tried the link to that website but haven't a clue because nothing
there refers to my problem. If it is Java what do I do about that? I
also
have had the shutting down problem in the middle of something and that
report
said it might be spyware. So I got a list of all spyware on my computer
from
Earthlink's protection scan. (I have Norton too, run it every day, they
haven't found any in ages, but I may have old ones that I gave up on
(excluded from scan) because they wouldn't delete them and I couldn't find
them) My question is that if it is spyware, how do I know which one is
causing this or how can I find out which ones help certain programs that I
use? The Earthlink program said I couldn't delete any without affecting
programs but I deleted a few that sounded bad anyway but that didn't help.
So do I have 2 separate problems...spyware and corrupted Java? Or are they
related? Please help with either one or both!! Thank you!
