Re: Internet connection lost after 5 min.

Jan,

Thank you for such a quick response. I have installed an av, and it did
remove several virus, have also hit it with several mal-ware removal tools
and did find a key-tracker that was also removed. Because we can not keep
the connection alive long enough to update windows, I am at a loss as to
where to go next.

Thanks for the help

Hi Vickie :-)

Then the best piece of advice I can give you right now is to get an AV
installed, and get to the Windows update have it scan your system and let it
all the ones you need. Then you can worry about how long you stay on the
Internet. I hope that you have the Windows Firewall activated if not, do so
at once, before going to the Internet again.

Until you can decided what AV you might want, download and install the free
version of AVG from here. It is free, and it is good and you need AV
protection if you are going on the Internet and don't have one.
AVG Free Anti-Virus for Windows
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Scroll down to he section where you find avg71free_375a716.exe and click on
it, Save it to your hard drive, close out of IE and then go to the AVG file,
double lick on the the exe and install it, then immediately run the update.

Go to Start and see if the Windows Update shortcut is on the menu, click it
and then install all the updates. Then see if the problem still exists.

Hope this helps.

Jan,

Sorry, it is XP home, without service packs or virus protection. had been
using AOL, and their protection, but have now switched to earthlink, with
out
the protection.

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the

After surffing the web for 5 min, the internet will suddenly
disconnect.
I
have run various anti-spyware and malware programs, and did a virus
check,
all from cd, as the connection is lost before I can even load one of
the
programs from the web. I have changed the network card, (usb),
changed
ports, installed a dial-up, and still have not had any success.

Any help or direction would be great.
