Re: different IE freeze problem - active script links

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi,
Thanks for the help.
I've cleared the cache & run msconfig filling in all the required fields as
directed, however, once I click the expand button (mine says expand not OK)
there is no message to say that the file has been successfully extracted. I
can't even hear the machine trying to extract the file from the cd.

Have you any ideas ?

Many thanks.

Hi Paulson :-)

First,

Clearing the TIF Cache -
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Delete Off-Line files and then Cookies as well

and they try to register the other files again. If still not joy, then iIt
is possible that these files are damaged or corrupted and will beed to be
replaced. Try extracting a new copy from the install CD first:

For XP:

Go to Start/Run, and type msconfig in the window
Choose "Expand File"
Type the name of the file you want to extract one at a time, starting with
oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the i386 folder of your installation CD-ROM, typically,
Windows\i386

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System32, and click OK. The
msconfig looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you
that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

Do this for each file that you received the error for.

You may need to reboot.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I've had the identical problem( szAppName : iexplore.exe szAppVer :
6.0.2900.2180 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000 )
whilst trying to launch ie running windows xp. I have been following your
advice but whist trying to register the following 3 commands:
Actxprxy.dll,
Msjava.dll and Oleaut.dll I encountered the following error message
"Msjava
(plus others) was loaded but the dllInstall entrypoint was not found. This
file cannot be registered."

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi davina :-)

You did not tell us the version of Windows you are using, but, you might
try
the following and see if it helps:

Download and install the Windows script engine 5.6 here:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/scriptdb.htm

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, Yahoo or MSN, disable
them. If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it.

If you have any ad or popup blocker software installed disable it.

If you are running Norton anything, disable it and see if that helps>

If you have McAfee..
McAfee VirusScan Causes Performance or Hang-up Issues [Q268113]
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q268/1/13.asp

If you have Zone Alarm Pro,
Zone Alarm Pro can block access to Internet
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t230331.html

also..

Disable the Script Debugger in IE (Line 142) - Win XP
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

or..

Exit all programs that are running.
Click Start>Run>then copy and paste the following command into the window

regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll, and then click OK or hit enter.

You should see "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded", click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, then register all the following
commands by copying them into the window one at a time the same as you
did
the regsvr32 /I urlmon.dll above, hitting enter and then Ok after each
one.

Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll

If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry
values are
present and correct:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Name: (Default)
Value: IDispatch
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Hope this helps.

this is reposted from another thread, as the problem appears distinct
from
that one... basically, IE freezes when i click on certain links. i know
enough about web design to recognize that the problem appears to be
limited to links that launch active scripts, but i don't know enough
about
the inner workings of IE software to figure out how to fix this.

the problem is not limited to certain sites. it seems to be related to
links that launch some sort of active script - mostly javascript but i
have seen it with activeX. click on such a link, regardless of the web
site, and IE freezes. usually it doesn't give an error message - i have
to
close through the task manager b/c IE doesn't respond, which then gives
the following error message:

szAppName : iexplore.exe szAppVer : 6.0.2900.2180 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

i've been having this problem for weeks now and i have tried everything
to
fix it (virus scans, spyware scans, discussions with my brother the
computer engineer, the tech guys at work, etc.). i've been pulling my
hair
out! the tech guy at work said to run the beta saftety.live.com, but
whatever this problem is causes the launch installer on that site to
freeze as well!

yes, i also use Firefox and encounter none of these problems, but
certain
things (such as Westlaw - i'm a law student) are optimized for IE only,
so
it would really be helpful to figure this out.
