Jan/Robert,

Still no luck. I did what Jan suggested before I read Robert's comments.
My system works but IE now doesn't open at all:

If you mean you have done an XP repair that's what I meant:
it wipes stuff out to XP base.

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Repeat:

It would probably have helped to have described your symptoms
more clearly. E.g. what *exactly* are you seeing to cause you to claim
"IE launches but is corrupted"?

Remember: your words have to substitute for what our eyes might notice.

Robert - ieuinit.inf file does not have the lines you specified in it.

Again, probably because of the XP repair.
Unless you did one from a slipstreamed CD, I suspect
you no longer have even XPsp1; hence you would only have
the equivalent of IE6 which is integrated into XP base.

So - where do I go from here?

Remember what I said about having to rebuild? <eg>

However, you at least have a bootable system.

Ironically at this point you probably could install IE6sp1
without any difficulty at all. That at least could give you
the benefit of having a real IE Repair for later use. <w>

Then you can try reinstalling XPsp2 and all your maintenance
again.

Thanks,

Brad

Good luck

Robert
